The teachers at Goenka go through several hours of workshops and training programs to be in sync with the latest developments in their particular subjects and other levels.  The following workshops have been conducted hitherto and many more are in the pipeline to empower the Goenkan facilitators.

A workshop by Mrs. Ira Sehgal, a reputed consultant with NIE Times of India was organized on 1 July ’08The theme of the workshop was 'Effective Teaching Skills'. The session was highly interactive and addressed the general problems faced by the teachers during their classroom teaching. This was followed by an introduction to the different techniques and methodologies which facilitated the teachers with a better understanding of the differential needs of the learners and the process of catering to the same.
The session turned out to be quite informative as the teachers could relate to the different experiences shared by Mrs. Ira. The session helped the teachers in brainstorming their minds with ideas related to functional teaching. The idea of establishing a healthy student teacher relationship was also one of the significant features of the workshop. Thus, in all the session benefitted the teachers as they could find solutions to some of the common problems faced by the learners in the school.
Workshop conducted on “Learning through senses” dated:
30th June 2008

Senses tell us the world. Their significance is all pervading. Highlighting the pivotal role played by our senses in the learning process, a workshop was conducted by Ms Vandana Nangia, Special Educator, The Sanskriti School. The workshop triggered driving thoughts into the multi-sensorial learning patterns of children which helped them to relate to various situations arising in classroom. Understanding the differential needs of the learners based on multi-sensorial concepts, was addressed. The impact of sensory processing in the classroom and the various activities which can be included, to cater to the learner, were the key ideas of the workshop.

Handouts of the key contents were given to the teachers. The learning style of the teachers was also assessed by means of a questionnaire. A list of games and activities were narrated which could help the teachers for the sensory seekers and avoiders.

In a nutshell, the underlying idea of shedding assumptions and taking in account the play of senses towards a successful learning graph was conveyed successfully.

The workshop on life skills conducted by Ms. Madhu Sharma on 28th June 2011 was attended by Ms. Preeti, Ms. Chhavi Narang and  Ms. Ritu Pahuja. The resource person gave an insight into two domains of life skills, that is, ‘Self awareness’ and ‘Creativity’. Through interactive activities, she taught the participant show to evaluate students’ creativity and make them aware of the ‘self’. The activities were organised in such a manner that the concept took an organised shape in the minds of the participants. The evaluation techniques were quite helpful in the daily classroom setting.

A smart board induction session was organised for teachers teaching classes III to XI and especially for  the new recruits. The workshop targeted areas like working using the     e- beam software, calibration process, functionality of the stylus and navigating the scrap book. Usage of all the tools of the functional screen that is, the marker, the highlighter, the eraser, the palette, etc. was explained in detailed with proper demonstration sessions.
A first hand on experience in the creating, editing, retrieving and saving of scrapbook was also given. Queries of the teachers were addressed patiently and the interactive session turned out to be an informative one.

Art is the manifestation of truth that beholds the eye! To bring out the truth of the statement, an Art workshop was organised on 28th June 2011 by the Art department for the teachers of the Middle and the Senior wing of the School. The workshop aimed at equipping teachers with ample creative ideas for decoration of display boards. Apart from various techniques of content layout, making of simple, designer and thematic borders was also taught.
A galore of color schemes to be put up on the board was presented to the participants. Hands – on experience of making a variety of flowers using the techniques of paper folding and origami was well appreciated.

A teacher who establishes rapport with the taught becomes one with them, learns more from them than he teaches them. The statement was well expounded by Ms. Jayashree Mehta, a resource person from Times of India – NIE group, who visited the School to conduct a workshop on ‘Student Teacher Rapport’ on 29th of June 2011.
The four factors, important for building rapport with students, namely, teacher’s personality, her emotional health, positive mindset and understanding child’s behavior were discussed in detail. Besides, quite a many do’s and don’ts were also iterated.
The interactive session highlighted the fact that as agents of change, we, teachers, can bring a sea change in the personality of students by developing mutual trust and a bond of love!

The English Department conducted a collaborative workshop on 30thJune 2011 wherein each member of the department put forth her contribution. Attended by the Pre Primary and the middle wing of the school, the workshop threw light on the finer nuances of Application Writing and Remarks Writing in the pupils’ record sheets, accurate framing of which becomes a bottleneck for many teachers. The workshop also highlighted the difference between British English and American English and our need as Indians, to blend the two for our usage. Besides the workshop also exposed to teachers the very common and minute errors that creep into one’s writing with a view to widen their vistas and strengthen their hold over the language. ‘How to enhance one’s speaking and reading skills’ was also elaborated in the workshop, with special ways to improve one’s vocabulary.

A Hindi language workshop was held on 30th June 2011 for the teachers of the Senior wing of the School. The one and a half hour long workshop conducted by Ms. Pravesh Sharma and Dr. RekhaArora discussed the evolution of Hindi language and its development till date highlighting its phases of expansion and stressing on the change patterns the language has gone through.
The contemporary version of Hindi that is simpler and easier was brought to the forefront. The resource persons also highlighted the common errors that we, as native speakers of the language, commit and ways to rectify them proved useful.
